Joanne Brooks, shares how life has been a journey that has shaped her into the woman she is today and how life's twists and turns have paved the way for transformation, resilience, and triumph on a voyage of self-discovery, growth, and empowerment.

Cast your mind back to the year 1980 – a time of dreams and aspirations. Freshly graduated from a local school on the Gold Coast, I stood at the crossroads of opportunity. University was the path I desired, but life had a different blueprint. Destiny directed me toward the world of banking through my father's guidance. In those early moments of uncertainty, a decision was made that would define my future. My inherent shyness was momentarily overridden by determination as I dared to step out of my comfort zone. I embarked on a journey of making phone calls to bank managers, securing a job within a mere two weeks. Looking back, that choice was pivotal – a seemingly small action that set a pattern of courage and tenacity for times to come.

 As my journey progressed, I navigated the challenging waters of the male-dominated banking sector. A room full of men was no longer intimidating; it was an arena to assert myself. Reminiscing about a branch manager's words – praising my consistent effort despite not having the best results – I understood the significance of initiative. The power of taking charge of one's narrative and conquering discomfort became evident. This lesson resonated as a guiding principle, instilling a fervour for taking charge and embracing challenges head-on.

 Life has a way of presenting us with unexpected trials. Tragedy struck when I lost my husband to a car accident. The responsibility of navigating through grief while caring for my daughter became my reality. Soon after, a health scare put my resilience to the test as I faced testing for both my daughter and me. Although terrifying, the outcome was a testament to the strength within us. These experiences unveiled the unwavering strength that resides within us when faced with adversity.

 Transitioning to a new phase, I embarked on entrepreneurship. I was determined to make a difference. My journey wasn't without its share of ups and downs. Triumphs were celebrated, and setbacks were endured. One venture thrived, while another faced unforeseen challenges that eventually led to its liquidation. In this process, I gained invaluable insights into the power of partnerships. Collaborating with larger competitors allowed me to fill gaps in the market and deliver unique services. It underscored the significance of teamwork and demonstrated that success is often a result of collaboration.

My own journey to self-discovery led me on an emotional rollercoaster that showcased how disconnected from my purpose I had become, which meant I had been making poor decisions, creating the perfect storm to liquidation.

Great mentors who supported my journey to success were key in my self-re-discovery journey. They helped me awaken the passion within myself and made sure that I never lost sight of what was important.

My mission today is to help female leaders to believe in themselves, to be confident inside and out knowing that by doing so they will create a positive impact. To reawaken their belief in self so they can lower their exhausting façade and know it is time to step into their future success.
